Why your Frozen Headcannon is Wrong

As an avid tumblr blogger, I have witnessed many headcannons regarding the new Disney movie Frozen.  Some are fun to consider, but to be honest, almost none of them consider the actual facts given in the movie.

Headcannon: Kristoff actually had parents but was stolen by the trolls.  His father was one of the ice harvesters in the first scene.

troll

Is this person feeling okay?  Did he/she watch the movie?  True, Nordic mythology does make it clear that trolls would steal children and eat them, but that is not at all what happened in the Disney movie.  We see that Kristoff is riding his little sled with Sven alone through the woods.  If his father was an ice harvester, wouldn’t he have gone home on the sled with him and the rest of the men?  I consider it a little dangerous to let your child go into the woods alone.  Besides, later Kristoff tells Anna that “it was just me and Sven until they took us in”.  There you have it.

Headcannon: Elsa and Anna’s parents were emotionally abusive.

king

Okay… it’s so wrong.  Sorry, but it just is.  The troll chief told Elsa’s dad that she must learn to control her powers, so thats what Elsa’s dad tried to help her to do.

Headcannon: Elsa had no way of figuring out how to control her powers after being unable to control them for so long.

coro

I think this person missed the point of the movie.  Elsa’s powers are out of control because of her own fear.  When the troll told her “fear will become your enemy”, we thought he meant fear coming from other people, but thanks to Anna we discover that the only truly scared person is Elsa.  Her powers are obviously directly connected to her emotions.  This shows why she has so much power being “alone and free” on the mountain and why she can’t control her powers because she’s nervous at the coronation.

Headcannon: Oaken is gay.  The family shown is another man and their children.

Hey, I see where you’re coming from here.  The family shown seems to feature all boys.  However if you look close you’ll see that next to the man in the sauna is a smaller woman.  Could this be a gay couple?  Yes, but we have no way to know which of the two in the sauna is Oaken’s partner.  I’m not calling it until I have serious proof.

The last thing I have to say about spreading rumors that have no basis:

New Mickey Cartoons and how they’re changing the face of Mickey

For about a year now, Disney has been releasing several shorts starring Mickey mouse and friends.  These air on the Disney channel during commercial breaks and every episode is directed by a different artist.  Now, why do we care?  Because they’re just so good!  These shorts are super creative and consistently make me laugh.  It seems to me that the director has switched back to a style of humor closely resembling the insanity of black and white shorts.

Of course Mickey shorts are nothing new, but these shorts just seem to have something extra in them.  Mickey used to be unfunny, almost like a throw away character even though he was the face of the company.  Disney has made such a large improvement with these shorts that I actually consider Mickey a favorite.  The Disney Store is even selling merchandise specific to the shorts (Yes, I spent a paycheck on these.  Oops.)  So take a look for yourself.  Obviously humor is subjective, but I think I speak for most people when I say these are a huge improvement on the humor of Mickey and a tribute to Walt.

Elsa and Anna Limited Edition March Dolls.

This my first time purchasing a limited edition doll from Disney.  I always kind of chuckled thinking of old men surrounded by young beautiful dolls, but I saw the press release on Disney’s blog and decided I needed to have the Elsa because I’m in love with her Coronation dress.  My father decided to purchase the Anna doll to sell for profit on eBay (yes, he has become a scalper).  Now, I ordered these almost a month and a half ago and they just came in this Tuesday.  The face molds are perfect, especially compared to the November dolls which, in my opinion, didn’t resemble the characters at all.  Here are some detail shots I took earlier.

Disney Princess Redesigns

Suuuuuuuuuuch old news.  Oh well, get over it.  It’s still important.  These are the images that little girls (and boys!) will see and as we all know, media representation is very important.  In order of best to worst, I present the new princesses.

tia

1. Tiana (The Princess and the Frog)

Just an addition of glitter.

rap

2. Rapunzel (Tangled)

Luckily the newer princesses seemed to suffer the least.  She still looks dead inside to me.

aur

3. Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)

Like her new hair, but the dress looks so much cheaper.  Why did they take out the seams on the bodice? Her face is all wrong too.

bel

4. Belle (Beauty and the Beast)

I like the color change quite a lot.  The hair looks like a hot mess.

ari

5. Ariel (The Little Mermaid)

This caused quite the uproar because her new dress is nowhere to be found in the movie.  To be fair, the dress is quite ugly and she seems to suffer from an excess of accessories.  I do like her neutral makeup tones and hair change.  To me, she looks more like the movie ariel in the redesign.

sno

6. Snow White (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves)

Meh.  This modernized version takes out many details that I think are Snow’s defining characteristics.

jas

7. Jasmine (Aladdin)

I hate this one.  They changed so much about Jasmine.  Why did they give her pink lipstick and hoop earrings?  They specifically made a choice to white wash Jasmine

cindy

8. Cinderella

I could scream.  Everything is different and about ten times uglier.  Her face doesn’t even resemble the original.  Cindy’s dress is not dark blue.  To top it off, the designer gave her a sock bun.  Staaaaaahp.

mul

9. Mulan

What the hell is going on with that hair and hairpiece?

poc

10. Pocahontas

Oh poor Pocahontas.  Her mother’s necklace is destroyed.  Her skin is lightened and she has feather earrings.  Her dress has beads and feathers.  Why did they take out the little Native culture that Pocahontas had?

The Festival of Fantasy Parade has arrived!

Wow, the first new parade in over 10 years! Disney recently retired Celebrate a Dream Come True (RIP) in order to make way for the new parade, Festival of Fantasy, which held its debut yesterday (March 9th, 2014).  It was amazing and the floats were truly a spectacle.  Many of the Disney revival princesses were to be seen with their own intricate floats, with dancers in all new costumes.

Firstly, the Beauty and the Beast float was lead by the crazy swan people, which confused me.  Where there swans in that movie at all?  Odd.

Quiet, classy float. Nothing too special.

Cinderella and Charming arrived in typical fashion, nothing new to note about their outfits.  However, I did find it strange that they made such a spectacle of her pink dress.

The float spins around to reveal Cindy's pink dress.

This Frozen float is absolutely amazing!!!  Anna in her coronation dress??? I love it! And her hair looks stunning, perfectly natural.  That little Olaf spins and moves beautifully as well.  Elsa is elegant and regal as usual.  I just can’t get enough, I love that they included these girls in the parade even though they’re so new to the Disney universe.

This is my favorite float of the parade by far.  It’s huge, it’s amazingly detailed, and it’s got characters spread throughout it.  If you look closely you can see Flynn Rider and other guys from the Snuggly Duckling on one of the swinging axes.  Tell me that doesn’t seem like a fun job to have!  And I love the Rapunzel’s hair leads through the entire float.

So many easter eggs hidden in this float!

The only thing that ruined it for me was the costumes of the dancers.  Just hideous!  Are they… rainbow viking renaissance girls?  I found the many of the general dancers had these crazy costumes that just seemed like a child threw on every colorful thing they could find.  Take a look at other dancers over at Stitch Kingdom.

Ugh.

Ugh.

The Malificent float was by far the most thought-out and detailed part of the parade.  She was led by three very worried fairies, along with Prince Philip, fighting her off.  This float was very dark compared to the other floats, possibly to make us think of the new Malificent movie coming up.

The crown jewel of the parade.

And finally the parade wraps up with a garish Pinocchio float, a cast of miscellaneous characters and a lovely little Mickey Mouse float.

What do you think, was the parade a true Festival of Fantasy or a  Funeral of Gaudiness?

Walls down on the Mine Train.

For most of you, myself included, this is old news.  However I still wanted to post on it because there are several pictures you might want to see.

Firstly though, for those who may not have heard about it: The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is a new ride currently under construction in New Fantasyland.  It sits next to Belle’s village and until February 11th there where walls around the ride, with only small windows for guests to take a sneak peek.  It has been under construction since 2012 and Disney has released a few pictures of the view from the top of the ride!

The parks have also released some detail shots.

A few avid fans were lucky to grab a few shots on the day the walls went down.

Tell me that dip doesn't look fun!

Looks like it might be fast, exciting, but still good for little kids.

Soft openings for the ride are likely to be held sometime in May, though Disney has released no opening date yet.  It seems they still have much to accomplish on the ride before it is ready, considering that construction workers are consistently walking busily around the ride.  I wonder if Snow White will be mentioned, especially after the closing of Snow White’s Scary Adventures.

So what do you think?  Do you plan on riding it your next trip?

Welcome to my blog!

Here I will be posting all of my combined information on upcoming information about Disney.  This will include movies, merchandise, and parks updates.  I am a senior at Taft High School in Chicago.  So why do I post about Disney?  Because Disney is my passion, what I plan to do for the rest of my life, what captivates and relaxes me.  I hope that you can find it as magical as I do.  Currently I am prepping for my Disney life by working two part time jobs, one in a restaurant, another working as a costume performer at a kids show.  The latter is the best job I could ever ask for!  Anyway, hope you enjoy my blog.  I know I will enjoy posting to it!

PS. 40 days until my next WDW trip!
